Philippine Textiles and Textures

Philippine Textile and Other Textures as Primitively Rendered by Computer Graphics

Various regions of the Philippines are known for intricately woven materials, ranging from the pinya cloth, a sheer fabric made of fibers of the leaf of the pineapple plant, as woven in my home province ofAklan, to the sturdy sawali, a paneling of bamboo strips woven together to make the walls of a nipa hut, to colorful tapestries and waist cloths of different tribes handloomed from decidedly Western materials of mercerized cotton threads. I tried to recreate these different woven textures and shapes by computer graphics and this section is the humble fruit of my primitive renderings. The title hugis kutis is a play of the Filipino words for shape (hugis) and complexion (kutis).
